Training & Workshops

The best time to prepare for a crisis is before you’re in one.

True North’s training is built from real experience, not pulled from a textbook or built from a generic framework. Every workshop and exercise stems from situations that actually happened, decisions that actually had to be made and the lessons that only come from being in the room when it mattered.

Training is tailored to your team and the specific challenges you’re most likely to face. Whether you’re preparing for a crisis that hasn’t happened yet or building skills your team will use every day, the goal is the same: walk away feeling more confident and more capable than when you arrived.

You may be here because

  • Leadership wants to feel genuinely prepared to speak publicly, not just briefed
  • Your team has strong communicators but no shared framework for high-pressure moments
  • You want clearer roles and better decisions before the next crisis arrives
  • You’re required to complete communications training and want it to actually be useful
  • You serve a community that holds you accountable and you take that seriously
  • A past situation escalated faster than expected and your team wasn’t ready

Most teams find out they’re unprepared at the worst possible moment. True North training changes that.

What makes True North training different

Built from real incidents. True North’s training isn’t built on case studies from a textbook. It’s built from experience inside joint information centers, state-level emergency response and some of the most demanding public communications situations in Minnesota.

Tailored to your world. Training is developed around your organization, your audience and the specific challenges you’re most likely to face.

Immediate application. You leave with skills, frameworks and language you can use right away — not concepts you’ll need to translate later.

Senior-led, always. Every training is designed and delivered by senior experts on the True North team. Not handed off to a facilitator. Not run from a slide deck someone else built.

The media isn’t your adversary. They’re your most direct connection to the people you serve. When a wildfire burned through an area north of Two Harbors earlier this month, destroying homes and buildings and forcing hundreds of evacuations, one person …

Trust: It’s built slowly and spent quickly May 25, 2026

Trust is built slowly, one small decision at a time. It can be spent in an instant. Target spent years building emotional trust with consumers — not just as a retailer, but as a company people felt reflected their values, communities and identity. Then …

Communicators are sometimes the worst at communicating. I have proof. My husband Mike is a former ski racer. I am not. When we met, I was a nervous, shaky skier who spoke to herself the entire way down a run and snowplowed where everyone else was carvi …
